Q. What is the VZ Navigator Website?
A. The VZ Navigator website provides:
  • An all-in-one search tool to locate businesses, places, movies, or events in an area you select.
  • Maps that show where you are currently located or any location in the United States that you are interested in viewing.
  • Weather forecasts that show current and expected weather over the next five days.
  • Maps that show real-time traffic conditions in an area you select.
  • Place messages that you can send to and receive from other VZ Navigator users containing geographic information to create maps and get directions to a location.
  • Location bookmarks to save your favorite locations and recent searches to easily reuse again.
In effect, VZ Navigator website is a companion to the VZ Navigator mobile application that runs on your mobile phone.

A. The VZ Navigator website URLs are:
Q. Do I need to subscribe to VZ Navigator to use the VZ Navigator website?
A. No. If you are not a subscriber, you can use some basic VZ Navigator website services to create static maps or search for businesses in an area. But, you must be a subscriber to use VZ Navigator's navigation services to create routes shown on dynamic maps with turn-by-turn directions.
Q. Is there a login process to enter VZ Navigator Website?
A. Yes. However, it is only for Verizon Wireless customers, as the log-in process expects users to enter their account information using their 10-digit Verizon Wireless mobile number or alias name.
Q. I am a new Verizon Wireless customer. How do I sign up for an account?
A. Register for an account directly from VZ Navigator website, or through other Verizon web portals like vtext.com.
Q. Can I use my existing vtext account to log in to VZ Navigator?
A. Yes.

Maps
Q. In what areas can I create maps?
A. Any place in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.
Q. How do I create a map in VZ Navigator?
A. Click the Maps tab to show the Address field. Type a partial or complete address in the Address field and click Search. A partial address can be a ZIP code, a city, a city and state, or only a state.
Q. Will a map appear if I type a partial address that could be located in several areas like a common city named Springfield?
A. No. You will see a list of all places that match the name that you entered. After you select a place from the list, the map refreshes and shows the area you selected.
Q. How do I zoom a map in or out to show more detail or a greater area?
A. The easy way to zoom a map is by rolling your mouse scroll wheel forward or backward to zoom the map in or out. You can also zoom the map in or out by selecting the vertical zoom scale shown at the right of the maps.
Q. How do I pan a map to see other areas?
A. Pan the map in any direction by first clicking on the map, and then press and hold your left mouse key and move the mouse in the direction you want to pan the map. You can also use the map's pan control that is immediately above the vertical zoom scale.
Q. What are the different types of maps that I can select from the VZ Navigator website?
A. You can select three different types of maps by clicking on the buttons near the top of the map window:
  • Map is a traditional graphic map that shows the map area directly from above with a 2D perspective.
  • Satellite is a satellite image that optionally includes the names of streets and other geographic elements with a near 2D top view map.
  • Bird's Eye is a satellite image that optionally includes the names of streets and other geographic elements with a near 3D view of the map area.
Q. How do I get the latitude and longitude for an address or location shown on a map?
A. Click on the Details tab of the location bubble on the map to see the latitude and longitude of the location.
Q. Can I set a default location for my maps and searches?
A. Yes. Click the Set Your Default Location link above the map and type a partial or complete U.S. address. The map refreshes and shows the address you set as the default immediately above the map.
Q. What's the benefit of setting a default location for my maps?
A. You can personalize your searches around a specific area like your home without needing to specify a location each time you search. This makes it quick and easy to create routes or search for movies, events, and businesses near your home.
Q. Can I select just a small area from a map to zoom in and get a detailed view?
A. Yes. Click the magnifying glass icon beneath the zoom scale. Then, move over the area you want to see in greater detail. Your mouse cursor changes to a cross hairs. Holding your left mouse button down, drag and create a rectangle of the area. Release your mouse to expand the area within the rectangle to the full size of the map window.
Q. Why does the map of a location appear to be incorrect?
A. Verizon Wireless partners with TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. to provide mapping information. The rendered map data is updated every three months by our map data provider, NAVTEQ. To report an error or omission in the NAVTEQ mapping database please complete the following form.

Traffic
Q. What kind of traffic information can I see in VZ Navigator maps?
A. You can see traffic flow, which is the average speed on a road affected by congestion. You can also see incidents, which are typically accidents or road construction sites that affect the speed of traffic on a road.
Q. How do I see current traffic conditions of the roads shown on a map?
A. Click the Traffic button on the map. Select the Show Incidents checkbox if you want to see traffic incidents too.
Q. What do the colored lines overlaid on map roads mean?
A. The colors indicate traffic flow on roads. Each color represents the difference between the reported speed and the posted speed limit for that segment of the road.
  • Red means average road speed is less than the posted speed limit by 66 percent or more.
  • Yellow means average road speed is between 33 and 66 percent of the post speed limit.
  • Green means average road speed is within 33 percent of the posted speed limit.
Q. How do I get the details about the traffic incidents that I see on a map?
A. Click on an incident icon shown on the map. The location bubble that appears above the incident icon shows the details about the incident.

Local Search
Q. How do I search for businesses or points of interest?
A. Follow this short procedure:
  • Click the Local Search tab.
  • Type the name or a type of business in the Bing field.
    For example, type Starbucks or coffee shop.
  • Type a partial or complete in the field to the right of the Bing field.
  • Press [Enter] or click the magnifying glass icon to start your search.
A list of search results appears in the pane to the left of the map. The map refreshes and shows pins on the map where the listed results of your search are located.
Q. What's the best way to enter an address for my searches?
A. Type the address as a single line with spaces between the different parts of the address. You do not need to enter separator characters like commas in the address.
Q. How do I enter a partial address to search a wider area than a specific address?
A. Type a ZIP code or a city state combination.
Q. How do I get more information about my search results?
A. Click the purple pin that shows the location of your search results on the map, or click an item from the search results list. The location bubble that appears above the pin you selected shows the details.
Q. What is the blue pin that appears in the map of my search results?
A. The blue pin shows the center of your search area.
Q. How far does VZ Navigator search?
A. VZ Navigator searches up to an 80 mile radius around the location you selected.
Q. How do I get directions and a route to business or point of interest shown on the map?
A. Follow this procedure:
  • Click the pin on the map to show the location bubble for the business or point of interest you want to go to.
  • Click Directions near the bottom of the location bubble. The left pane of your browser shows the address of the location you selected in the field next to the B pin. The address of your default map location appears in the field next to the A pin.
  • Click Get Directions if you want a route and directions for travel by car. Otherwise, click one of the icons next to the Get Directions button if you want to walk to the destination or travel by truck or bicycle.
Q. How do I save a business or point of interest that I searched for so that I can find it without having to search again?
A. Show the location bubble for the location you want to save. Then, click Favorite at the bottom of the location bubble. In the Add to Favorites pop-up window, type an optional name and phone number for the location. The location is saved to your personal Favorites.

Directions
Q. How do I get directions from my home to another location?
A. Here's the general procedure to get directions from your home to another address:
  • Set your home address as your default address.
  • Click Maps and type the address you want to set as the destination for your trip.
  • Click Search to create a map that shows the address you entered.
  • Click Directions in the location bubble above the map pin that shows the address of the location you typed.
  • Click Get Directions to create a route between your home address as the starting point and the address you typed as the destination for your trip.
Q. How do I create a route from my home to a location saved in Recent Searches or Favorites?
A. Here's the general procedure to get directions from your home to a location in your Recent Searches or Favorites:
  • Click My Places and click either Recent Searches or Favorites to see a list of locations.
  • Click a location from either list to show a map that includes the location identified with a purple pin.
  • Click Directions shown near the bottom of the pin's location bubble.
  • Click Get Directions to create a route between your home address and the location from your Recent Searches or Favorites list.
Q. How do I create a route between two locations, which are not your home address or saved in your Recent Searches or Favorites?
A. Follow this general procedure to get a route between two different locations:
  • Click Maps, and then click Directions.
  • Type the starting point for the trip in the Pin A field.
  • Type the destination for the trip in the Pin B field.
  • Click Get Directions.
Q. Can I get more detail about each step of a route?
A. Yes. After you create a route, the individual steps are listed in the left pane of the website. Click on a route step in the left frame to get more detail about the step. The map refreshes to show a smaller pop-up window of that route step at a higher zoom level with the names of the streets and your route shown in the map.
Q. Can I print the set of directions as my trip itinerary?
A. Yes, click Print Directions at the bottom of the left pane that shows the steps of a route. A printable version of the directions appear on the screen.
Q. How do I create a route without traveling on toll roads or HOV lanes?
A. While you are in the Directions tab, click Show Route Options and select those route avoidances that you do not want to travel on to your destination.
Q. Can I create different types of routes for a trip?
A. Yes. You can create different types of routes based on the estimated travel time, distance, or a route with the fewest turns and roads. While you are in the Directions tab, click Show Route Options and select the type of route from the Route field.
Q. If I plan to walk or ride a bicycle to a destination, do I need change anything on the website?
A. Yes, the default travel mode is by car. From the Directions tab, click on the truck, bicycle, or pedestrian icon that represents the mode of transportation you want to use for your trip.

Messaging
Q. What is a place message?
A. A place message consists of information about a location and your personal message. A place message is received and recognized by VZ Navigator on a mobile phone. The benefit of a place message is that you can request a map or route to/from the location included in the place message without re-entering the location's address from VZ Navigator.
Q. Who can I send place messages to?
A. From both the VZ Navigator website and your mobile phone, you can send place messages to other VZ navigator users, other Verizon Wireless customers who do not subscribe to VZ Navigator, or all valid e-mail addresses.
Other VZ Navigator subscribers can view the place message to create a route or get directions to the location included in the message. If the recipients of place messages are not VZ Navigator subscribers, they receive standard text messages that include the address of the location. Similarly, e-mail recipients only receive a text message that includes the address of the location included in the place message.
Q. What is the difference between a place message and a SMS?
A. A place message contains a location and an optional message and is generated through VZ Navigator (website or mobile application) and is recognized by the VZ Navigator mobile application. A SMS is a standard text message sent from a mobile phone or from the vtext.com website to Verizon Wireless handsets and received as a SMS by those handsets.
Q. How do I choose a location to include in my place message?
A. Show a location on a map and click the button to show the location bubble. Then, click More to show additional options. Select Share to show a pop-up window with fields to enter one or more recipient phone numbers and a message.
Q. What's the maximum length of messages that can be included in VZ Navigator place messages?
A. VZ Navigator supports messages up to a maximum of 160 characters.
Q. What happens when messages are longer than the maximum of 160 characters?
A. VZ Navigator application only allows 160 characters to be typed. As a result, the recipients only see the first 160 characters of the message.
Q. How do I know if a location message has arrived on my phone?
A. You hear a tone and see a notification pop-up message on most phones when a message arrives. The pop-up message includes the time and date of the message, as well as options to view the place message now or later.
Q. If I have my phone turned off, will I still receive text messages?
A. Yes, a notification message appears momentarily after you turn on the phone.
Q. How do I know who sent me a place message?
A. The sender is identified by their mobile number or alias and the domain name vtext.com.
Q. How many place messages can I store on my phone?
A. Up to 100 place messages.
Q. What happens if I receive place messages and my inbox in full?
A. As the inbox nears its maximum capacity, you receive notification messages to delete older messages and make room for new ones.
Q. How do I know if additional incoming place messages were sent if my place message Inbox is full?
A. After removing some place messages from inbox, you can sync your phone with the VZ Navigator website to retrieve any incoming messages that were not delivered while your inbox was full.
Q. If I am on a call, do I still receive text messages?
A. Yes, VZ Navigator supports the ability to talk and receive place messages simultaneously. You are prompted with a new place message notification and the option to view the message now or later. However, this can vary on phones. If you are on a call, some phones will allow you to continue receiving messages while others will deliver messages after the call is completed.

Movies and Events
Q. What's the basic procedure to find a movie?
A. Follow these general steps to find a movie:
  • Click the Movies tab.
  • If you know what movie you want to see, type the movie's title in the Find Movies field. Otherwise, leave the field blank to search for all movies.
  • If you want to find a movie in a certain area, type the name of the city and state in the location field.
  • Click Search to create a list of movies playing currently in the area you selected.
Q. Can I show a map of the theaters playing a movie that I want to see?
A. Find the movie you want to see in the search results list and click Map Theaters Playing this Movie to view a map that shows the locations of all theaters in the area playing the movie you selected.
Q. How do I get the theater show times of the movie I want to see?
A. Find the movie you want to see in the search results list and click Showtimes to see a list of all theaters playing the movie and the remaining show times for today.
Q. Can I see a map of theaters playing the movie I want to see with show times for each theater?
A. Yes. Click the title of the movie shown in the search result list to see a map of the theaters playing the movie and a list of show times for each theater.
Q. Can I search for movies by genre?
A. Yes. The default movie search includes all genres. To filter the search results list to show movies by genre, select a genre from the drop-down list of the Genre field above the movie search result list. The search list refreshes and shows only the movies that match the genre you selected.
Q. What's the basic procedure to find an event?
A. Follow these general steps to find an event:
  • Click the Events tab.
  • Select a date from the Starting field that you want to attend an event.
  • Select the type of event from the drop-down list of the Event Type field.
  • Select a subcategory for the event type you selected.
  • Click Search to create a list of the type of events you selected that are playing currently in the area you selected.
  • Click on a listed event to create a map that shows the location of the venue playing the event.
Q. Can I search for events that are appropriate for kids?
A. Yes. In the Event Rating field, select Kid Friendly from the drop-down list to find events that are suitable for children.

My Places
Q. What's the difference between a Recent Search and a Favorite?
A. Any location you select from Local Search, a movie search, an event search, or from a map is automatically listed in your Recent Searches. A Favorite is intended to be a location that you permanently save to reuse again without having to search for it first. When you add a location to your list of Favorites, you can assign it a name and a phone number.
Q. How do I access my Recent Searches and Favorites?
A. Click the My Places tab at the top of the map, and then click either the Recent Searches or Favorites tab to see a list of stored locations.
Q. How do I add a location to my Favorites?
A. Show a location on a map. Click the map pin to show the location bubble. Then, click Favorite near the bottom of the location bubble to show the Add to Favorites pop-up window. If you want, type a name and phone number for the location and click the Add to Favorites button.
Q. Can I save a location listed in Recent Searches as a Favorite?
A. Yes. Click on a Recent Searches entry to show a map with a pin at the location. Then, click Favorite near the bottom of the location bubble to show the Add to Favorites pop-up window. If you want, type a name and phone number for the location and click the Add to Favorites button.
Q. Can I delete my Recent Searches and Favorites?
A. Yes. Click Settings above the map window, and then click the Clear Recent Searches and Clear Favorites buttons beneath the Clear Saved Data area of the window.

Preferences
Q. Can I customize some aspects of the VZ Navigator website to my personal preferences?
A. Yes. You can choose the units of measure for reported distances (metric or English units) and positional coordinates (degrees or decimal).
Q. How do I set my preferences?
A. Click Settings above the map window, and then select your preferences for distance units and positional coordinates.
